Colorado Insulation Golden Denver and surrounding areas
Efficiency Revolution installs fiberglass and cellulose insulation in Golden and Denver Colorado homes to help keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Missing or inadequate insulation is one of the biggest reasons for energy loss in most Colorado homes. Many Denver homes have only a few inches of attic insulation.
How much attic insulation is needed in Colorado? R 49 to R 60 attic insulation levels are recommended in Colorado. Insulation levels are measured as “R values.” The higher the R value number, the better the insulation level.
Fiberglass vs Cellulose insulation
Blown fiberglass insulation is by far the most common attic insulation type for a lot of reasons. Why is fiberglass is better than cellulose? We like to use fiberglass for most attics because it creates a lot less dust than cellulose, there are fewer additives, fiberglass doesn’t smolder if exposed to a heat source like your furnace or water heater exhaust pipe (aka flue), and it won’t compress your existing insulation at all like cellulose insulation. Cellulose insulation is very dense (heavy), so if we want a total of 15 inches of cellulose, and you have an existing 8 inches of fiberglass, we would have to add about 12 inches to account for compression of the existing insulation and future settling. This is a huge waste of materials, time, and money. Fiberglass insulation settles very little or not at all, while cellulose might settle 2-4 inches within just a couple years. If you prefer cellulose, we can do that too. Cellulose is better for noise reduction.
In addition to improving comfort, adding more insulation to your Colorado home will help lower heating and cooling bills and improve your home’s resale value.
Crawlspaces and Basements
The living space above many Colorado crawlspaces is cold because the crawlspaces are poorly insulated if at all. We can fix that problem and make your house warmer in the winter. See the photos below for an example of the work we typically do on crawlspaces.
Above: Before and after insulating and adding soil moisture barrier to the crawlspace. Notice the bare dirt, which was becoming airborne and getting into the leaky duct system. We installed a sealed soil moisture barrier and insulated the walls. Now the house is clean and warm, and the homeowners are very happy!
